It can’t be denied that some of the best metal music comes from Finland. And Egokills’ music is no exception.

Hailing from Tampere, the second largest city in Finland, Egokills follows the tradition of creating excellent metal music. Yet, they added their own spin on the legendary genre: they have created hippie metal!

Formed in 2011 by Janne Selo, Egokills features some amazing Finnish talent: Niko Viita-aho, Paavo Pekkonen, Mika Pusa, and Vilho Rajala. For the first year that they were together, the band spent their time rehearsing and writing songs. In fact, the group didn’t even have a band name until they released their three-track demo in the spring of 2012. And when they took to the stage that following summer their name was already well-known around the city. As they played at festivals and venues throughout Finland “hippie metal” became the tag that was used to identify their own unique sound and special blend of metal music with hippie themes.

In late 2016 Egokills released their first album Creation through Massacre Records and is available on Spotify. Check out the video for the song “Polarize” from that album below.

A second album is also in the works, and the guys at Egokills have released a lyric video for the track “Dysfunctional.” Check it out.

Be sure to check out their website, and give them a shoutout on social media:

In closing, apart from their own style of music, the thing that strikes me the most about Egokills is their friendly demeanour and willingness to engage with their fans. A quick glance at the comments section of their Youtube videos show this the best. This down-to-earth mentality has definitely found its way into the band’s music, giving an even greater meaning into the definition of what makes hippie metal.
